Contrast Circuits

01.02.2023

Architecture, warmth, aromas, silence, and stillness, a perfect combination for an idyllic sensory journey that makes time stand still during the 90-minute experience of our Contrast Circuits: Patio Mudéjar, Chapel of San Pedro, San Baudelio, and Roman Balnea.

Each one, inspired by a unique place, transports you to another time and another world. The Patio Mudéjar Contrast Circuit, exclusive to Castilla Termal Olmedo, is a recreation of the striking Palacio de Santa Clara in Tordesillas, one of the finest examples of Mudejar art in Castile and León, blending Romanesque and Gothic styles.

The Chapel of San Pedro Contrast Circuit, unique to Valbuena, recreates the Chapel of San Pedro (also known as the Chapel of the Treasure), located on the southern side of the Monastery of Santa María de Valbuena. Gothic frescoes with religious, royal, and battle-themed imagery will accompany your moment of relaxation.

Meanwhile, the San Baudelio Contrast Circuit, located in El Burgo de Osma, is a reinterpretation of the 11th-century Mozarabic hermitage in Casillas de Berlanga. A magnificent space where eight horseshoe arches spring from a central column and walls decorated with some of Spain’s oldest Romanesque frescoes.

Finally, the Roman Balnea Contrast Circuit, in Solares, is inspired by the ancient Baths of Caracalla. Its central element is located beneath a spectacular dome inspired by the Pantheon of Agrippa, once used as a sundial.

What the Circuit Involves

This journey through the five senses begins with the application of an oriental body scrub, which prepares the skin to fully absorb the benefits of the thermal waters.

From there, we move on to the sauna, where heat helps promote relaxation and the elimination of fluids and toxins.

Once the skin is prepared and the body relaxed, we enter thermal pools with hot water at 37–38°C, alternating with cold water pools at 21–22°C. This temperature contrast is designed to stimulate blood circulation, an especially effective step for treating varicose veins and venous return issues, while also toning muscles and delivering an immediate relaxing effect.

The next step in the circuit is a foot bath (pediluvium), where water and stones apply pressure to the soles of the feet, offering particular benefits in relieving cerebral congestion. In the Balnea Romana Contrast Circuit, instead of a foot bath, you'll find an ice fountain, used by rubbing ice over the entire body, starting with the extremities and moving upward, while performing deep breathing to stabilize heart rate and cool the body gradually.

From there, we enter the Hammam, a space with 100% relative humidity and a subtle eucalyptus aroma that moisturizes the mucous membranes and upper airways, promoting easier breathing. It also supports sweating and fluid elimination, while offering a deeply relaxing effect for the entire body.

Next, we experience the Scottish showers, where alternating jets of hot and cold water help tone the vascular system and stimulate circulation. Hot water relaxes, while cold water invigorates and tones.

To finish, we rest in the relaxation room, where soft heat, dim lighting, and gentle harmony accompany us as we enjoy a herbal infusion. This final moment allows the body and mind to recover and fully relax after the treatment.

Benefits

Among the many benefits of the Contrast Circuits, detoxification and relaxation stand out. Water provides oxygen and supports the body’s natural process of eliminating toxins.

These circuits also rejuvenate the body, purify the blood, stimulate the lymphatic and circulatory systems, and help firm the skin and tissues.

By lowering body heat levels, they help redistribute energy and improve the body’s ability to adapt to temperature changes.
