Las Edades del Hombre Foundation
The Monastery of Santa María de Valbuena, located in the town of San Bernardo (Valladolid), has been the permanent headquarters of the Las Edades del Hombre Foundation since 2002.
Today, the Monastery, located in the heart of the Ribera del Duero, is one of the best preserved Cistercian architectural complexes in Europe and is open to visitors. During the tour you can see the medieval rooms, composed of a kitchen, refectory and work room; its beautiful cloister articulated in two heights and the monumental Church with the Chapel of San Pedro.
LAS EDADES DEL HOMBRE
The Las Edades del Hombre Foundation, which belongs to the Church in Castile and Leon, aims to preserve, restore, research and disseminate the heritage of the eleven Catholic dioceses in Castile and Leon with regard to evangelization.
Its great exhibitions of sacred art are worth mentioning, which have been held since 1988 and have been visited by more than eleven and a half million people. However, it is necessary to also mention the organization of other many exhibitions, concerts or conferences; as well as the intervention into and reorganization of museum spaces.
With each edition of the Las Edades del Hombre, a catalogue has been published containing high quality photographs of the works on display, accompanied by scientific studies carried out by professionals in each of the subjects. These catalogues have become a reference for art history scholars.
The Foundation Las Edades del Hombre has a Preservation and Restoration Center at its headquarters in the Monastery of Santa María de Valbuena, where more than 2,000 works of art have been exhibited, many of which have been shown in some of the editions organized by the Foundation. The restored work included pieces by the best artists in the history of art, such as Gregorio Fernández, Juan de Juni, Alonso Berruguete, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo and Alonso Cano, among others.
Since 1988, when the first edition of Las Edades del Hombre took place in the cathedral of Valladolid, 24 exhibitions have been held, which have been visited by more than eleven and a half million people and in which 4,831 works of art have been exhibited. The exhibitions have been held in all the provinces of the Autonomous Community of Castile and Leon as well as in Antwerp and New York.
