Circular Economy Pact in Castilla y León

At Castilla Termal, sustainability is one of our core pillars. Our goal is not only to offer luxury wellness experiences but also to integrate responsible practices that minimize environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future. For this reason, we are part of initiatives like the Circular Economy Pact of Castilla y León, which align our operations with a more responsible and efficient economic model. 

Circular Economy is a model that aims to reduce waste and maximize the use of resources. Instead of following the traditional cycle of "extract, produce, consume, and dispose," the circular economy promotes reusing, recycling, and repairing products. This helps decrease pollution and material consumption, fostering a more sustainable system. Thus, products at the end of their useful life can be transformed into new resources, creating a positive impact on both the environment and society. The Circular Economy Pact of Castilla y León is a voluntary agreement in which the signing entities commit to implementing a circular economy model in their operations, with the goal of driving economic transformation in Castilla y León. This initiative aims to establish and strengthen a "territorial circular economy ecosystem" that brings together all the key players in the region’s, province’s, or local economy.

Circular economy is at the heart of our business vision. From the reuse of natural resources like thermal water in our wellness treatments to the production of wine and cosmetics made from grapes grown in our own vineyard, every step we take is focused on maximizing the use of available resources. We are committed to continuing to transform our management model, ensuring that every action we take has a positive impact on the environment and the community.

Circular Economy at Castilla Termal:

• Our Vino Converso is crafted from the grapes of the Castilla Termal Monasterio de Valbuena vineyard. Additionally, the skins and seeds from the grapes of the Monastery are given a second life by being used to create our body exfoliant, and we use the thermal water from the Manantial de Sancti Spiritus as the base for our natural cosmetics.

• According to regulations, we renew 3% of the water in our pools daily. The chain has a system that collects, treats, and purifies gray water, which is then used for toilet flushing and irrigation of the hotel’s green areas. This way, water resources are optimized to the maximum, achieving savings of up to 80% compared to similar facilities that do not have this system in place. 

• The restoration of Castilla Termal’s heritage is considered part of the circular economy, as it is based on the use and recovery of materials. Additionally, it allows us to breathe new life into historic buildings that, if left untouched, could deteriorate further. 

• The Castilla Termal gardens at our hotels are an example of the circular economy, as they enable the local production of food for our restaurants. By growing our own vegetables, herbs, eggs, and more, we reduce the need for transportation and minimize waste. This approach not only ensures freshness and quality in our dishes but also promotes sustainability and respect for the environment. In this way, Castilla Termal not only offers a unique culinary experience but also contributes to a more responsible and circular model.
