Hiking trails in El Cañón del Río Lobos
Enjoy a unique natural landscape with routes designed for all ages, from 4 kilometers to 11 kilometers. An opportunity to play sports and rediscover the flora and fauna of a very special environment.
There are numerous marked hiking routes and the possibility of entering any of the numerous torques, chasms and caves that undermine its walls. Here are 15 routes and a detailed map of the canyon with them.
ROUTE 1: LA SIERRA
Distance: 7.5 Km. Principle: Bridge of the 7 Eyes. End: El Portillo. Viewpoint of Costalago.
The Canyon of the Hoz, the Dehesa de Santa María de las Hayas, the Vallelago of Costalago. From the viewpoint you can see the Sierra de Segovia and Madrid. The different vegetation between the limestone and siliceous zone is observed.
ROUTE 2: PICO NAVAS
Distance: 5.3 Km. Principle: El Portillo. End: Pico Navas.
You would see the Dehesa de Costalago from the highest points of the Natural Park; to the south, the Sierra de Segovia and the Madrid. To the north, the Sierra de la Demanda and Urbión. To the northwest, the Picos de Carazo. Typical aromatic vegetation. Highlighting the presence of the Tejeo. Typical formation of lapiaz.
ROUTE 3: EL TORCON
Distance: 10.25 Km. Principle: Agualinas. End: El Portillo.
The principle of the canyon would be crossed where we will be able to observe the circulation of the water through sinks, forming the aquifer. In the rainy season we can observe the upwelling of water in the Raideras siphon. Changing direction would lead us through the Sierra and the Sima del Torcón to the viewpoint of Costalago.
ROUTE 4: LAS DEHESAS
Distance: 7,35 Km. Principle: El Portillo. End: Deposit.
Going down from El Portillo, we go through the Vallelago of Costalago, the Dehesa de Santa María, passing through the Fuente del Pino to the Depósito. Typical vegetation of dehesa, being able to observe a mass of wild pine.ROUTE 5: LA LASTRILLA
Distance: 4.04 Km. Principle: Deposit. End: Bridge of the 7 Eyes.
It would take us from the depot, going up the road from Santa María-San Leonardo de Yagüe to the viewpoint of La Lastrilla, going down the Barranco de la Hoz and the Sumidero del Chorrón that will lead us to the Puente de los 7 Ojos.
ROUTE 6: LA CANTERA
Distance: 6.9 Km. Principle: La Cantera. End: The Quarry.
Going up by a Quarry we will go through a pine forest area where we will check the differences between Pino pudio and Pino negral, with the presence of a small lagoon.
ROUTE 7: LOS PIMPOLLARES
Distance: 8.6 Km. Principle: El Portillo. End: Carretera Nafría-Santa María.
It passes through a zone of chasms, with mixed vegetation of wild pine, pio pine, juniper, juniper and holm oak.
ROUTE 8: EL ENCINAR DE NAFRÍA
Distance: 4.1 Km. Principle: Nafría Laundry. End: Carretera de Nafría-Santa María.
It is worth noting the presence in groups of large holm oaks, unique throughout the Park.
ROUTE 9: RÍO UCERO-EL CASTILLO
Distance: 4.85 Km. Principle: Ucero. End: Visitor Center.
You go up to Ucero Castle observing the valley to El Burgo de Osma to the south and to the north, the entrance to the Canyon, passing through the source of the Ucero River.ROUTE 10: LA SIERRA
Distance: 5.8 Km. Principle: Local SO-920, Km. 21.5. End: Nacedero bridge.
It runs through the moorland of the Park, with good specimens of Puro pudio, junipers and aromatics. Being able to divert to the chasm of the Merino Cure, linking with the way to the Hermitage of San Bartolomé.
ROUTE 11: LA SIERRA
Distance: 4,25 Km. Principle: Visitor Center. End: Valdecea.
We will observe the typical vegetation of the canchales, a calera, the moorland with its aromatics, the view of the canyon from the viewpoint and the vegetation of the riverbank.
ROUTE 12: VALDERRUEDA
Distance: 9.3 Km. Principle: Congosto Bridge. End: Valdecea.
It runs through a beautiful canyon that narrows as we approach the Lobos River, and down the river to the Ermita de San Bartolomé.
ROUTE 13: RIO CHICO
Distance: 9.24 Km. Principle: San Mateo Bridge. End: Nacedero Río Ucero.
Walk through an area of abandoned gardens, passing through an old mill, until you reach a wild canyon, leading to the Ucero River and linking with the route of the Castle to the Nacedero del Río Ucero.
ROUTE 14: CABEZA GORDA
Distance: 11,75 Km. Beginning: Puente el Quemao. End: Bridge of the 7 Eyes.
Climb the moorland by walking through a mountain of junipers, pine trees and junipers; arriving at Sima de Torcajón, going down to the Lobos River through the Barranco de las Fuentes and going up the river to the Puente de los 7 Ojos.ROUTE 15: BALCONCILLO DE LA ERMITA
Distance: 9.25 Km. Principle: Bridge of the 7 Eyes. End: Valdecea. Going down the river and up the Barranco de las Covatillas we will walk through the moorland passing through the Tordesa de Valdesneila, to reach the little balcony of the Hermitage, with a vegetation of juniper, Puro pudio, Scots pine, Holm oak and Quejigo .
