“Feel like a local” in the surroundings of Cantabria
When you each your destination, all you have to do is enjoy your escape from your daily routine, and what better way to do so than to discover the local customs and activities.
Discover the customs of the locals in the vicinity of the Castilla Thermal Spa in Solares, to feel like one of the crowd. Are you ready?
If you visit Cantabria, a trip to its beaches is something you must do, so we recommend those of El Sardinero and the Magdalena peniinsula in Santander while you enjoy one of Regma's legendary ice-creams. Take a stroll along the shore of Somo beach to the point and recharge your batteries with some sardines in Pedreña. And at dusk, enjoy this spectacle of nature and watch the sunset from the cliffs of Liencres.

If you visit the beaches, you mustn't neglect the rest of the natural surroundings, which are unique in Northern Spain. We recommend a trip to the Picos de Europa National Park, climbing on its via ferratas or on a clear day walking up to the head of Peña Cabarga where you can see Santander in the distance.
Likewise, to get to know the real essence of Cantabria, you have to visit some of its most traditional towns and villages, such as: Santilla del Mar, Comillas, San Vicente de la Barquera, Suances…
*Capricho de Gaudí in Comillas.
Cantabria stands out for its natural environment, its history and the charm of its villages, but above all it stands out for its traditional cuisine, so you should not leave without having tried ... Los Sobaos "El Macho" the authentic Soba Pasiego cakes, go to Liérganes for their popular hot chocolate with churros and taste their flaky pastry "sacristanes", visit Santoña to eat their famous anchovies and at lunchtime, you mustn't miss their traditional mountainy stew, "Cocido Montañés".
You can draw water from the Solares spring on the grounds of our spa hotel. The "Agua de Solares" bottling plant opens a spring from 10 am to 12 noon every day so that people can draw water free of charge.
When you have collected your water, you can "go for a stroll through the kiwis", which is a circular path very near the hotel that leads through the tobacco industrial park and passes through a kiwi fruit plantation.
If you are lucky enough to be spending the whole weekend here, you mustn't miss...
On Saturdays and Sundays, you can visit the bars and other establishments in the area where you must try their traditional "rabas" of squid.
*Rabas of Cantabria.
You must also enjoy Cantabria at night, and Santander is the ideal choice to enjoy concerts, leisure and cultural activities held in the Campa de la Magdalena or visit the Plaza de Cañadío, popular for its many late-night bars.
In addition, depending on the time of year when you visit the Castilla Termal Spa in Solares, you will be able to enjoy the traditional celebrations and festivals, in which the out-of-towners contribute all of their effort and enthusiasm, such as: Easter, Carnival, the patron saints' summer festivals, summer markets and fairs, sporting events featuring races, surfing and cycling.
